Hmm, i dunno if this is bordering on a hot debate or whatever but i was just wondering if you guys think that Christmas has lost its true meaning and has become way too materialistic. Read the poll and put your input, cause a few friends of mine had this big discussion, and i wanted to see what a bunch of people think, so cast your vote and leave your thoughts as well.
I know this drastically defers from my previous post, but hey, im very thoughtful at the moment haha.

I voted yes, and here is why. Us Catholics state that the true meaning of Christmas is the rebirth of Christ, and on a day like this we receive expensive presents! Well as you know I'm sure, it starts back with the original Saint Nicholas, and how we was always an extremely giving man, who would give presents and money to those who left their shoes out for him. He was a giver and not a receiver. This was around 300 AD or so, and since then has been mixed up with different meanings, such as becoming the model for the one we now call Santa Claus. However he gave what he could to the less fortunate, and we somehow mixed giving materialistic items to our closest friends/family on a day that is holy. It sort of contradicts the entire thing eh? So in a general aspect I believe that yes, Christmas has become too materialistic for our own good, and alas has lost its true meaning.

It can be whatever people want it to be. Sure people might want to give more than receive, that doesn't mean they have to believe all the backstory behind it. And if they just want free stuff, well free stuff is awesome, and chances are they'll be giving sometime in their life anyway.
