Answering to Bek's message in the Shoutbox, I'm fine, thanks. Everything is paralyzed in my state until May the 6th, government said no school, no social events, no nothing. My state has had only one confirmed case, where regretfully the person died. You hear about a lot of cases in the center of Mexico and that is because it is way too crowded over there and the health care is almost nonexistent. Heck, there are even places that some days have no water but that is a different topic. To be honest, Mexico is not naturally a poor country, people here are hard working but politicians steal most of the money. That is why people die in here. There is not enough medicine for everybody, not enough infrastructure for humans in pain, and you know why? Because people in the power steal the money our taxes have given to Mexico. You know what's funny? People who are in charge of buying medicine for hospitals seek the cheapest provider and make deals with it: "I'll report 50k Mexican Pesos worth in meds bought from you, and when they ask, you tell them it's true." And you know what they do? They actually buy 20k or 10k worth in meds and the rest is split between them. This is a first-hand story from someone who has been my old county's Hospital's director. I am filled with rage as I write this. All that money intended for Mexico's well being gets stuck in some illiterate's pocket. There is NO medicine left in my city, the capital of my state. The box of Tamiflu costs $120 USD and needs medical prescription. My parents just went to the USA and bought some, they were almost sold out. But I ask myself, what will happen to those who can't afford Taiflu? and to those who can't afford a prescription? and to those whose health care is incompetent? This is seriously f*cked up. And you know what's even funnier? That Canada warned Mexico that a Canadian that returned from my country had a suspicious flu before all this madness began, and Mexican authorities did nothing. It is always the same story: "Hire the cheapest," "Let the time fix it." That's why a highly ranked politician died months ago, because some idiots hired the cheapest pilot in some internet craiglist and he couldn't manage to land the plane safely in a case of emergency. Sometimes I wonder why is the people in power so stupid for making good and so smart for making evil? so greedy? and the best answer I can come with is that the good, hard working people decide to study hard and leave, because that's probably the smartest option. I don't know, I am enraged. Sometimes I feel like leaving CS and get into law and try to straighten things up if I do not get killed. The situation could not have gotten any worse in here. At first, crappy politicians, then, drug cartels with AK-47s and what not... now this? |

Albeit, I am not minimizing the State's efforts to try keep things safe. We got the army in the streets risking their lives (well, it was already there because of the narco) giving mask and other supplies. You can keep track of swine flu cases here: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8& ... 488281&z=5 |

That really sucks Kern.. I think every country has some form of corruption, Australia definitely has had a few health blunders recently although nothing as frightening as having a outbreak of a flu and not enough medicine. We had one thing where this "Doctor" was working in a hospital and had basically paid off the people who were meant to assess his ability to perform specialist operations. So after a fair few people died and started asking questions, he fled to USA and became a doctor there! Anyway, that's another story. I don't think I could put up with a government like that, corruption is such a hard thing to straighten out. And of course people would much rather make easy money. Is there anyway you could move to another country until things get sorted out in Mexico? Are there any countries offering foreign aid? Although if the system is that corrupt I don't know if it would do any good anyway! People really piss me off -.- It's just so easy to forget about other people and the danger your poor decisions could be putting them through. Reading on that google maps page it says 57 deaths in the Mexico City area and 800 symptomatic.. Surely that would be enough to convince ANYONE to cut the crap and start doing their job right! So with social activities banned what are people doing? Have any factories or things been shut down? I'm sure the damn economical crisis doesn't help either! Arg. Well good luck man I really hope this thing doesn't increase in it's ferocity. Glad you were able to get some of this Tamiflu.. Just saw another story on the 6.30 news about it. Mentioned that Australian researchers are beginning to look into a cure (Because that could certainly make them rich!) But at least we're doing something I guess. |

Factories, haven't heard about them, but I guess it will be hard to close a factory because of the workers union. People is still working; streets clogged as always. In the center of Mexico every bar and restaurant has been shut down; they only do deliveries. Informal business in the streets have been closed. In my state, and I guess the same goes for the rest, sport matches are played without audience and movie theaters are empty if not closed. Samael wrote: what part of mexico are you from kern???
